Grilling Chicken On A Gas
Grill To Perfection
Grilling chicken on a gas grill is an easy way to produce a delicious main dish
from the barbecue.
This is a very versatile meat that lends itself to a variety
of seasonings and flavorings. Plus, it can be lower in calories than many other
meats, making it healthy as well as tasty. And, any leftovers you may have will
be great in sandwiches and salads.
If the meat is in the refrigerator, allow it to sit at room temperature for up
to a half hour so it is not ice cold when you start to cook it. This will
shorten cooking time and also allow it to cook more evenly. Of course, do not
let it, or any meat, sit at room temperature for any greater length of time, or
to warm up completely.
Be sure to cook it promptly and thoroughly after allowing it to warm slightly,
as described above. It should be cooked to an internal temperature of 165
degrees Fahrenheit. Using a meat thermometer to be sure of the temperature is a
good idea, and ensures that the meat is safe to eat.
Either boneless or bone-in pieces may be used. Even whole birds can be cooked
this way, or a whole one that has been butter flied. Whether to skin it or not
is also an option. Removing the skin will reduce the calories, since the skin
contains fat. But, you will need to be more careful in cooking it because
skinless meat may tend to be drier.
Many herbs and spices will enhance grilling chicken on a gas grill. You can
marinate the meat in a liquid marinade, either purchased or homemade. Or, dry
rubs on the meat will contribute a lot of flavor and can be mild or spicy to
suit your taste.
To avoid having the meat stick to the barbecue, spray the unheated cooking
surface with a non stick cooking spray, spraying away from any flame or hot
surface. Be sure not to crowd the pieces too much, giving each one space to cook
evenly and thoroughly. Grilling chicken on a gas grill is an easy way to make a
delicious meal for yourself, family, and friends.
